Christmas Blues Support Group 2009

CHRISTMAS BLUES SUPPORT GROUP 2009

Shorter days. Colder weather. Frost on the ground. The fall colours. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “The holiday season.” Shopping mall decorations. Arrival of Christmas cards in the mail. Conversations about plans for Christmas. Christmas carols on the radio.

For many, the signs that Christmas is approaching are eagerly welcomed. They count the days until Christmas. After all, it is meant to be a time of joy, giving, and celebration.

Some, however, dread Christmas. They painfully count the days until it is over.

Do you feel sad, lonely or “blah” around Christmas?

Do you dread Christmas?

Do you isolate?

Do you take time off so as not to be around workplace festivities?

Have you experienced, or are you experiencing, a significant loss at this time of year? Death of a loved one? Separation or divorce?

Did you grow up with bad Christmas experiences?

Did you grow up not celebrating Christmas but surrounded by others who did?

The purpose of the Christmas Blues Support Group is to identify current responses, receive support, explore expectations, grieve losses, and develop new coping strategies and behaviours.
